2018 UCI Downhill World Cup is finally here. The most intense, demanding and technical tracks in the World await to be conquered by the fastest downhill racers on earth.
MS-Mondraker Team team members have been training hard in the off-season and refined Summum Carbon race weapons have already smoothed down the Croatian sharp-edged rocks under the blazing sun and the dust has finally settled after the 2018 DH World Cup #1.
Racing is always unexpected and after a great beginning of the season for Mike Jones he was eventually a victim of the rocky Losinj track suffering a flat that prevented him from qualifying for Sunday finals. Nevertheless, this is the first World Cup race and he has proved to have the speed to be on top and the upcoming races will confirm it.
If any ever doubt it, Brook MacDonald is back. Back at MS-Mondraker Team, back at Mondraker. Brook is racing at his very best and set the fastest timed training run on Friday and fastest Qualifying time on Saturday proving how confident he feels racing at his highest ever level and also clearly proving how much he has missed his beloved Summum Carbon these past seasons. No doubt Brook-Mondraker duo has given MacDonald the edge and commitment to translate his strengths into real speed. And the best is yet to come.
Unfortunately Brook was also a victim of the rocks in Losinj and the most assured but eventually missed podium finish for the New Zealand, in the end, hurt more than his broken collarbone that will prevent him race for the coming weeks. But everyone knows that The Bulldog, the prodigal son, will return to race stronger and faster than ever.
Laurie Greenland had a super committed race run at Sunday finals in Losinj that made us remember his race run and silver medal at 2016 Val di Sole Worlds and just missed the podium by 0.37” seconds. A 7th place might not seem good enough for Laurie who came from winning the IXS Cup the week before in Maribor, but we all know that the top spots of the podium are the ones he really belong.
Fort William awaits revenge.
MS-Mondraker will be back racing on June 2nd-3rd.
